Thanjavur, formerly Tanjore, is a city in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Thanjavur is an important center of South Indian religion, art, and architecture. Most of the Great Living Chola Temples, which are UNESCO World Heritage Monuments, are located in and around Thanjavur. The foremost among these, the Brihadeeswara Temple, is located in the centre of the city. Thanjavur is also home to Tanjore painting, a painting style unique to the region.

If you are going to Tanjavur you also have to visit Trichy so you can visit sreerangam temple, tiruvani kovil, and rock temple. From tanjavur only one hour journey to Kumbakonam. Staying at Kumkakonam you can visit more than 100 important temoles. The list you get it from the hotel you are staying. I have visited 5 times

It depends on ur place of origin, direct train available from ernakulam and buses from most parts of kerala . Madurai to tanjore 4 hrs , coimbatore to thanjavur 6 hrs, theni to thanjavur 7 hrs ,the mentioned places are key connecting places from kerala to thanjavur and you have to pass through any one of these places.
